nth digri in Trinidad under the trees

Under the Trees (at the Normandie Hotel) is a landmark performance venue in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, that has  featured the likes of legendary calypso artists David Rudder and Black Stalin. I had the distinct pleasure of  performing there as part of the Cascadoo festival of Caribbean spoken word poetry on August 16, 2013. It was  the closing show of the festival, and some of Trinidad and Tobago’s finest poets had already blessed the mic  with riveting performances.  I was the lead-off for the Voices of Canadian Artists Across Latitudes (VOCAL), a touring group of heavy-hitters from Canada’s spoken word poetry movement, leaders of that movement: Eddy Daoriginal One, Dwayne Morgan, and Motion. So you know the nth digri had to represent strong, That night, I threw down four poems, Sugar Cane, Panthem (a tribute to my grandfather who lived just up the road in Cascade), Spare the Rod, and My Back. You can see some of the video from Sugar Cane, as well as video of Eddy, Dwayne, and Motion’s performances, along with a brief TV interview at the end of the clip, at the following Youtube address:

There is a lot of other videos from that night up on Youtube, courtesy of the energetic Cascadoo organizer Mtima Solwazi of the T&T Poets Society. The artists include Curious Ringo, Djeliba Djanique, Paula Oba, Naeem Bilal, Osei Jackson, Mtima, Patrice Inglesbirth, Nzingha. Just search for CASCADOO! And big big big respect to my bredren MAcnhilde (who joined us in performances we did with the Pan-Demonium steelband and in Woodford Square), Oba Dread (who gave me such inspIrational drumming as a rapso percussionist extraordinaire), Rachel Collymore our MC and co-host with the most, David (my cousin solid on the help-out), and all the friends, family, artists, media, who supported us during our trip!

You can check more video and photos and such on the Cascadoo blog/site at http://cascadoo.wordpress.com/
And on the Cascadoo Facebook page

And look out for the T&T Poets on the return leg as Voices of CARIBBEAN Artists Across Latitudes (VOCAL) cuz we are gonna bring you something brilliant that you never heard before!!
