The Stress

Standard

The stress
The stress of the city takes no rest
The stress of the city takes no rest
With the cursing of the horns
And the race through the streets
And the cars that are zooming through
Boulevards and avenues
Express
Every day is just clash and contest
Feel your heart beating hard
In your chest

Double time with the pace
Sidewalks and back lanes
As I crowd through the cityscape
Doubly awake
To the beast on the prowl
And the siren growl
And the headlight beam
ID me in the shadow
Come test
Stress of the city takes no rest
Leaves body and soul in distress

 And the bolder the better
In the shoulder-to-shoulder
Stoop under pressure
No wiser but older
Innocence squeezed
Out of minds ill at ease
And the concrete freeze
Out the passion
And the scene downpress
Stress of the city takes no rest
Stress of the city takes no rest

With the night sky dying in a restless haze
Stars and dreams washed away in greys
And the breath down your neck
With the frantic attempt
Keep your head above the waters
That are jus one big toxic mess
Drips as the city compress
Stress of the city takes no rest

With the stress
Smoke and the steam and the rumbling heat
And the fear and the greed and the galloping beat
And the rust and the dust and the shuffling feet
And the screams and the bleats and the fake show of teeth
With the stress

Curses those who think that they’re blest
The stress, the stress of the city takes no rest, no rest, no rest…
