Kuumba: Black wRites Matter

On the first weekend in February, the nth digri will be delivering two performances, including Q&A sessions, at the Kuumba celebration of Black History Month at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto.

Co-Produced by the Northern Griots Network, the performances are part of an exciting line-up of artists in the Black wRites Matter program, which includes, among others: two former members of the legendary Last Poets from the US, Waleed Mohammed from musical sensation AfroNubians, the Slam Champ Just Jamaal out of Ottawa, Up from the Roots’ griot and Spoken Word TV producer Dwayne Morgan, versatile beatbox poet DaOriginalOne, poet/actress/playwright hot off her Black Theatre Workshop premiere, Amani Woods, the explosive spoken word talent of Afrikaren, young lions R.I.S.E out of Scarborough, Word Guerilla Paulina O’Kieffe, edutainer Patrick Walters. It’s creativity exemplified by the best in artistic expression from artists of African heritage as we move Black to the Future!
